EV Charging Station Roaming
EV charger roaming lets EV drivers use stations from different networks with a single app, RFID card or account. Here is a summary of EV charging station roaming options for EV drivers in Australia.
- Fourteen EV charging networks have enabled their platforms to accept a driver’s own RFID card or tag. Therefore, after opening an account and adding their chosen RFID number with each network, a driver may then use a single RFID card or tag to roam across 14 of the EV networks across Australia, i.e. AGL, BP Pulse, Chargefox, Elanga, Enevi, Everty, Evie, EVX, Exploren, GET Electric, RAA SA, SolarHub, NRMA and Wevolt.
- A single Chargefox account and app or RFID may be used to locate and activate EV charging stations on 5 partner roaming networks, i.e. Chargefox, AGL, EVX, NRMA and RAA SA.
- A single AGL or Everty account with app, may be used to roam and locate EV charging stations on each other’s networks, i.e. AGL and Everty. An Everty RFID will activate a AGL station.
- A single Charge N Go or Smart Charge account, with app, may be used to locate and activate EV charging stations on the Saascharge platform, such as Smart Charge, Charge N Go or other Saascharge roaming stations.
- A single Wevolt account, with app may be used with 3 networks, i.e. the Wevolt network and two other EV charging networks under development, Kuga Charge and Bright Charge.
- A single Origin 360 EV Charge account, app and card, may be used by Origin Energy customers to locate and activate EV charging stations on 5 roaming networks, i.e. Elanga, Evie, Exploren, Jolt and Origin 360 EV Charge.
- The PlugShare app may be used to locate most EV charging stations from all networks. PlugShare also shows location of many non-networked EV charging stations, provided for public use by owners of accommodation, tourist, recreation and other venues. PlugShare has a Pay With PlugShare facility, which seems to be not currently utilised by operators in Australia.
Other Methods for Charging
EV charging networks in Australia let you use a RFID card or tag, or some have credit card terminals, or some use QR codes to a portal. Most have an app you can use if you wish and some have a combination of options.
Also, over 500 EV charging stations have autocharge, so once you open your account and register, you can just plug in thereafter and charge without app or card.
