There are over 5,031 EV charging sites in Australia, about 1,550 are DC charging sites and about 3,481 are AC charging sites.
4,641 of the EV charging locations in Australia are part of an EV charging network, including 1,529 for DC charging and about 3,112 for AC charging. (As at 14 Feb 2026. Sources in the list at evlog.net.au).
390 locations are non networked free charging sites, including 369 AC sites and 21 DC sites.*
The free non networked EV chargers installed and provided by businesses for their customers and are not part of any network. These individual installs are usually free of charge as part of the guest or customer experience offered by the business.
This review of non networked charging locations in Australia, listed on PlugShare, was undertaken in February 2026. This indicated there were
- 30% of the non networked charging sites were at places of accommodation.
- 58% of the non networked sites were marked as being for Customers, Visitors, Employees or Guests and the balance had no restrictions on their listings.
- All of the non networked sites were free for the EV charging, but visitors would most likely incur other costs as a guest, customer etc.
*This number is conservative as only non networked sites, marked as Free in PlugShare, were added to the list. Therefore 390 is a minimum number. The Filter parameters were: PlugShare using the Networks filter for only "Other", plus the filters "Free", "Type 2" and "CCS2" with "hide restricted" and "coming soon" both off. Stations that appeared inactive were not counted. Stations which listed a network in the network field were not counted.Businesses who have installed AC or DC chargers with card payment terminals, but not joined a network, were not counted.
