In Australia there are about 5,884 public or business EV charging locations. 1,674 are DC charging sites and 4,210 are AC, Type 2, charging sites.
5,130 of the EV charging locations in Australia are part of an EV charging network, including 1,623 sites for DC charging and about 3,507 sites for AC Type 2 charging. (Sources in the list at evlog.net.au).
754 locations are non networked charging sites, including 703 AC Type 2 sites and 51 DC charging sites. (DC as at 2-5-2026 on PlugShare). (AC as at 6-5-2026 PlugShare)
Notes:
1. Private home Level 2 chargers, that are not publicly available on a network, are not included in the figures above.
2. Commercially provided Level 1 are not included in the figures above. There are several commercial providers of Level 1 metered power points.
3. Private home Level 1 power point charging is not included in the figures above. In Australia for private EV charging, Census 2021 says there are 7.5m separate houses 1.4m townhouses as well as 1.7m apartments.
4. The source for Non-Networked DC sites were those sites meeting filter requirements of “Other Network”, “CCS2” and included paid or free sites and “Restricted Access” sites, such as restricted to visiting customers, guests, staff etc. Sites were checked and “Non-Networked” were counted.
5. The source for Non-Networked AC Type 2 sites were those sites meeting the filter requirements of “Other Network”, “Type 2 plug”, “Free” and included “Restricted Access” sites, such as restricted to visiting customers, guests, staff etc. Sites were checked and “Non-Networked” counted. Free was used to make the search and analysis more manageable, therefore non-networked Type 2 stations that require payment are not included in the figure.
