Pole mounted EV chargers have been installed or operated in Australia by networks including Exploren, EVX Australia, AGL EV, Chargepost, Everty and Citipower.
The terms EV pole charger, or pole mounted EV charger, refer to an EV charging unit installed on an electricity pole or a light pole at the side of a road or parking area.
EV pole chargers require the driver to bring their own Type 2 charging cable with them. The pole chargers may be single phase or 3 phase. A 3 phase cable will suit both types of connection so a 3PH 22kW 32A cable will suit most EVs and a length of 5 to 7.5 metres will suit most pole charger locations. If the EV’s charging point is on the driver’s side, the longer cable may be needed.
- Exploren pole mounted EV chargers have been installed in NSW since early 2021. Charger models include Ocular (EVSE Australia) or Intellihub (Schneider Electric) streetside EV chargers using existing power pole infrastructure
- EVX Australia Polechargers have been installed in NSW and Victoria since 2022, using the EVX Polecharger designed and built by EVX in Australia.
- AGL kerbside chargers and Everty pole mounted EV chargers have been installed in NSW since 2025. AGL acquired Everty in January 2025 and the two brands are now partly operating together. Some Everty pole chargers carry Everty branding while more recently installed Everty pole chargers carry AGL branding, sit on the Everty back end platform and available on Everty app, but also roam on the AGL app. Models of pole chargers include those by Landis+Gyr and more recently by Connected Kerb and ABL
- ChargePost pole-mounted EV charging units were first installed as a pilot by Essential Energy in June 2025 at Kew in NSW, with more locations planned to follow.
- CitiPower pole-mounted electric vehicle chargers are being installed at locations in Victoria, with the first 8 installed in early 2026 in Hawthorn and Kew with a larger install program said to follow.
